City of Baconton
Baconton, Georgia was incorporated in 1903. It was named for Major Robert James Bacon. The city is located at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 19 and State Route 93, between Albany and Camilla. Baconton is the birthplace to the paper-shell pecan industry in Georgia.
Today, pecans still play a major role in Baconton. Savage of Georgia, which is the world’s leader in pecan harvesting and processing equipment is located in Baconton. In 2010, the population was 842.
