Overview
The purpose of the Southwest Georgia Counties coming together is to promote Junior Team Tennis, an organized format of match play for junior players within the counties of Mitchell, Colquitt, Tift, Lowndes, Thomas, and Decatur.
The Southwest Georgia Team Tennis League had a successful 2012. However, we will be making a few rule changes all participants should review. All rules should be reviewed in the rules and regulations section. The following is a list of some of the new major rule changes.
Major Rule Changes for 2013:
• Volunteers/Captains must have a background screening before coaching a team on match days. 2012 Captains do not need to renew until 2014. Go to ustageorgia.com click on Jr. Team Tennis & follow the directions for the volunteer/coaches background screening.
• Teams must have at least 6 players consisting of 3 boys & 3 girls at the scheduled game time. Teams with fewer players than 3 boys or 3 girls will have to default individual matches. Please review our scoring format section for all details.
• Players who play twice in one match will be given 15 minutes rest between matches.
Any child, ages 6-18 that has completed a required series of group tennis lessons or has undergone an on court evaluation may participate in match play. The Junior age group, ages 10-18 has mastered the basic skills of tennis, knows the fundamentals of keeping score, singles and doubles strategy, and the competition of team play.
